Smyrna, GA -- Murata Electronics North America introduced LDA31 Hand ANC Series Platform Antennas, a series of standardized antennas for Global Positioning Systems (GPS), Bluetooth, Zigbee, and WLAN 2.45 GHz applications tailored for devices such asmobile phones, PDAs, headsets, and portable mediaplayers. These standardized parts require very little design resources and achieve high-performance levels in a tiny package size based on Murata"s high-Q dielectric ceramics. Both on-ground and ground-clearance types are available.
Historically, antenna design is very difficult because of the inherent challenges in optimizing electrical performance while considering mechanical effects. After a significant amount of research, Murata developed a concept to overcome this issue by including advanced electronic circuits. The result is the platform antenna which be optimized on a customer"s board by using a specific land pattern and a grouping of external inductors and capacitors.
Additionally, Murata"s unique feeding makes these antennas much more stable and immune to changes in the environment near the antenna. The company has also developed a standard process for tuning the antennas using PCB patterns and external circuits - the first time this has been done industry wide.
"This is anexciting announcement for us," stated Scott Klettke, Senior Group Product Manager for RF & Microwave. "It represents the combination of component design with a standardized layout to remove many of the mechanical challenges associated with adopting and reusing small antennas."
Designed to save space in consumer electronics applications, dimensions of each type of antenna have been reduced to: 3.0 x 9.8 x 4.0mm (GPS On-Ground type); 1.5 x 9.0 x 1.85mm (GPS Ground-clearancetype); 2.0 x 9.8 x 3.8mm (Bluetooth/WLAN On-Ground type); and 1.6 x 3.2 x 1.2mm(Bluetooth/WLAN Ground-clearance type).
Murata"s high performance antennas are available for the sample price of $0.75 cents. Additional purchasing info can be found online at www.murata-northamerica.com. Lead time is approximately 10 to 12 weeks. |
